My major design project in my final year was a spa resort in a building of my choice. Located in one of the actual university campus buildings, in the evergreen outskirts of the city, it was an exceptionally large period grade I listed building. The resort was to cater for male and female visitors alike (in gender specific areas as well as unisex facilities) offering a wide variety of treatments such as massage therapy, reflexology, facial treatments, mud baths, sauna rooms, steam rooms, swimming pool, quiet rooms & a dance studio. I had the opportunity to investigate planning & building control issues as well as project phasing (since only part of the building was suggested for conversion). Further research was put into product availability, materials and fixing methods.
